whether: (1) expressing a doubt or choice between alternatives; (2) expressing an inquiry or investigation; (3) indicating that a statement applies whichever of the alternatives mentioned is the case.
The Days of the Dead have culminated in All Souls Day on November 2, a day where the souls in Purgatory are cleansed, washed clean by the prayers of the faithful on Earth. Candles are lit and prayers are said on behalf of all the departed. This is the morning of Violet Heart 33 in The Kalendar, a half-day of Whether and Whet.
These souls are thought to be in an intermediary state, neither Heaven nor Hell, nor enjoying the pleasures of Earth with its Wetness and Westerly winds. Of course, in The Kalendar, Wetness is the Yang Master at the Seat of Structure in the Letter of Watching and Heaven and Hell comprise the antipodes of the Seat of Structure in the Letter of Wholeness. The Seat of Structure at the Letter of Whirling brings these two sets of words together in harmony to suggest a sort of this-worldly yet liminal state composed of benedictions and/or punishments.
In short, we have arrived at Whether at the Letter of Whirling: the Seat of Structure’s Yang Master for establishing the agency of the Throne of When/Where. Not unlike the way that If established the Seat of Structure at the Letter of Functioning in the Season of Yang, Whether relates to conditions. Although the words If and Whether are sometimes thought to be synonyms, there are subtle differences. If may introduce any conditional clause; however, Whether frequently appears in the phrase “Whether or not”, indicating that a statement applies whichever of the alternatives happens to be the case. Whether extends Which-ness into Whichever-ness, connoting a sort of choice within the realm of timelessness.
The Wheeler Dealer at this station is characterized also by a state of Whet-ness. That is to say, they are seen to be sharpening the blade of a tool of Weapon (Weapon being the Yang to the Yung of Whetting). Or, they are having their appetites or desires stimulated, but not yet satisfied. Shrewd and practical, the Wheeler Dealer understands the importance in approaching the deal fully prepared to do battle. If they will be making a deal today, they must first have their Yearning aroused. Whetting at the Throne of When/Where is the Yin to the Yung of Yearning at the Throne of Yoga.
Whether-ness is a sort of in-between state: a choice between alternatives before a decision is made, thus giving the experiencer a taste of both sides, simultaneously, in advance. The Which has been set at the Throne of Why; but a sort of Whichever must now be faced. It is neither the best of both worlds or the worst, it is a foreshadowing of What it is (for Whether is the Yang to the Yin of What, with which it forms a complementary pairing).
In the afternoon of Violet Heart 33, the half-day of Auwi arrives. In the Wauja language, Auwi means “after that”. In short, there is a sort of Afterness associated with this afternoon, an ability or skill rising up in which indecisiveness and indecision is finally conquered. Is this what the Afterlife looks like as the intermediary state departs and gives rise to something new?
